Your baby or child may need support before they attend any early education setting.
- If they have a medical condition, they may be known to medical teams based in hospitals.
- They may be receiving support through the Child Development Service and be known to professionals in the community such as a paediatrician or community nurse, or to services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Special Needs Early Years (SNEYs).
- Some babies and young children receive additional support from Specialist Health Visitor for SEND.
Any of these professional’s may offer direct support or provide you with advice around meeting your child’s needs.
Some children with medical, sensory, physical or complex Special Education Needs and or Disabilities (SEND) may require early educational support in their home or in Specialist Child Development service group delivered by Special Needs Early Year’s service and Sensory Inclusion Service (Hearing Impairment and Vision Impairment).
Babies and young children can be referred to these teams from birth and referrals are often made by health and medical professionals already involved with your child. These teams will partner with you to provide advice and support for your child’s development.
To support the development of all children’s communication and development skills they will benefit from accessing local groups such playgroup, Stay and Play sessions within a Family Hub.
